Game Director Of Diablo 3 Steps Down
Jay Wilson, Game Director of the much hyped Diablo 3 is stepping down. According to a forum post, he is leaving the Diablo 3 team after 7 years and will be working on other Blizzard projects.
I recently celebrated my seven-year anniversary working on Diablo III, and while it’s been one of the most challenging and rewarding periods of my life, I’ve reached a point creatively where I’m looking forward to working on something new. The powers that be at Blizzard have been gracious enough to give me that opportunity. Over the course of the next several weeks, I will be moving off of the Diablo III project and transitioning elsewhere within Blizzard.
He goes on to iterate that his departure from Diablo 3 development team will not negatively impact Blizzard’s support of Diablo 3 and there are lots of future updates planned and he will be available to the team at Diablo 3 during his transition period.
Wilson also acknowledges that while many fans felt that Diablo 3 was released before it was ready, the team tried to make the best decisions with the information they had at the time. While the game isn’t perfect, he felt that they did a exceptional job trying to correct it. He also explains that their commitment to making their games as good as it can is what defines the Blizzard studio and the commitment doesn’t end on a release date. And with the help of the game community, they’ll continue to improve their games.
