Game of Thrones Star Emilia Clarke Joins Han Solo Star Wars Movie Cast
One of the next upcoming stand-alone Star Wars movies, which is a Han Solo film, has just picked up a major new star for the cast. Disney Studios and Lucasfilm confirmed today that Game of Thrones actor Emilia Clarke has joined the cast for the upcoming picture.
Clarke’s role is completely unknown at this point, but she will meet the characters of young Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) and Chewbacca in the film. Clarke is best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s hit series, Game of Thrones. According to Disney, Clarke’s character will be part of a “dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures.” So, this will likely start a huge wave of speculation for who she will be playing.
Clarke joins the cast opposite Ehrenreich as Solo and Donald Glover as young Lando Calrissian. The highly anticipated film will be set before the events of the original Star Wars trilogy, but likely after the prequels. This is definitely fan-friendly casting considering the popularity for Game of Thrones. However, Clarke’s not been able to successfully translate her success in Game of Thrones to stardom on screen. Her big turn as Sarah Connor in Terminator Genisys did not turn out well at all, and the movie was greatly maligned. Hopefully, she will have a better turn here.
The currently untitled Han Solo movie is going to be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. It’s set for a 2018 theatrical release.
