Larry Hyrb, better known as Major Nelson, has revealed the games that will be given away free to Xbox Live Gold members in October. Xbox One users will be able to get their hands on Chariot while Xbox 360 owners will get access to Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Darksiders II. Bad Company 2 will be available from 1 October until 15 October, with Darksiders II available for the rest of the month. Chariot will be free to download for the whole of October.
Chariot is an ID@Xbox title from Canadian developers Frima. The brightly colored co-op platformer challenges players to explore tough environments as they try to get their King’s coffin to its final resting place. A trailer for Chariot can be seen above.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was the sequel to the successful spin-off game Bad Company. The series puts less emphasis on realism than the main Battlefield games, with more humor and fun elements in the story mode. The game was critically acclaimed upon release and had a highly rated expansion in the form of Bad Company 2: Vietnam made available in 2010. Meanwhile, Darksiders II is a hack and slash video game that also incorporates action and role-playing elements with the payers taking control of Death, of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
The new games will replace Super Time Force on the Xbox One and Halo: Reach on the Xbox 360. If you want to get those titles at no price then you only have a few days before they will go back to their normal price.
The ‘Games With Gold’ promotion began in June of 2013 and was initially only going to be a temporary offer. However, following its success it was soon made a permanent fixture and eventually made its way to the Xbox One. Over the course of the program games such as Dishonored, Hitman: Absolution, Dark Souls, Dead Island and Sleeping Dogs have all been made available to download for free at no cost.
