Gamescom 2017: Microsoft Talking To Sony About Crossplay
At E3 2017, a string of announcements was unveiled that showed that crossplay between consoles like the Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch were coming in spades. And it was being lead by major game titles like Minecraft and Rocket League. And yet, one console was conspicuously left out of it: PS4.
Now, it wasn’t because Sony wasn’t invited, rather, it was they didn’t want to participate in it for “safety reasons”, which has boggled the minds of many because it’s not like crossplay is dangerous, it just hasn’t been done a lot. But, at Gamescom, Xbox Head of Marketing Aaron Greenberg said that they’re trying to work Sony on getting them to do crossplay:
“Absolutely, yeah. We’re talking to Sony [about cross-play], we do partner with them on Minecraft and of course we would like to enable them to be part of that; one community, to unite gamers. So we’re talking to them and we’re hopeful that they’ll be supportive of it,” Greenberg told Game Reactor.
Will they though? It’s hard to say, but we’ll just have to be hopeful because a lot of players want to be able to do this.
