Gamescom – Silent Hills Revealed In Terrifying Teaser
Touche Sony, touche! During the Sony Gamescom briefing, a new “interactive teaser” was briefly introduced for a horror title simply called P.T. – the demo went live on the PSN store instantly with little other information given. Sony knew what they were doing and a few heart issues later, so did the gaming community in one of the most horrific and terrifying game experiences ever!
Here’s the short teaser, which was all that Sony showed during it’s conference;

It turns out that P.T. was a first person interactive demo trailer for none other than the next Silent Hill game, Silent Hills. It came completely out of the blue and caught many gamers including myself unaware. The “teaser” has players walking through a loop of the same few rooms in an abandoned house, with many frights along the way. I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t witnessed it, but the demo makes Outlast feel like a title for children. It’s genuinely horrific, un-nerving and terrifying.
As it turns out, for anyone who manages to make it to the end of the cryptic demo without having a breakdown, Silent Hills is the next title in the survival horror franchise and will be directed by none other than Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima and horror movie veteran Guillermo Del Toro. Furthermore, at the end of the teaser it was revealed that the lead character is played by Norman Reedus, The Walking Dead TV shows’ best character Daryl.
If you haven’t tried it yet, give the free demo a try now on PS4 – but be warned, if you play alone in the dark and have any level of anxiety or heart condition, it’s hugely likely to leave you a jibbering wreck. The frights are genuinely scary and the atmosphere is immensely hellish. The telltale signs were there in hindsight; the static on the radio, the mirror in the bathroom which Silent Hill 2 fans should recognise instantly as well as the peep hole in the bathroom.
Well played Sony, Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro – Silent Hills looks set to be an absolutely phenomenal recovery for the flagging series that has rapidly slid downhill over the years. Whether or not I would be able to cope with a full length game, I honestly don’t know – I may have to see my doctor first for some anti-anxiety meds, but nevertheless a new Silent Hill is absolutely one of the best things that could have come from Gamescom.
If you don’t have a PS4 or aren’t feeling brave enough to immerse yourself into the frightfest demo, you can check it out on youTube, but please do so in a well lit room!
