Gargantuan Game Collection Up For Auction In New Jersey
Those who live around the New Jersey area and grew up with a game-playing machine of any kind will want to hear this. 45-year-old Bill Loguidice is offering his video game collection up for public auction — not online, but through an event at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center, which will be held May 31.
I’ve seen several of these battleship-sized game collections being offered through the years — though this is the first I’ve seen that isn’t being auctioned online. I always enjoy staring at the photos, trying to pick out what looks familiar in the piles of retro electronica — but this time, I have yet to finish doing so because I eventually got tired of sifting through the photos and had to take a break. That’s never happened to me. His collection is THAT BIG.
If you can think of something, it’s probably in there. Loguidice has written several books about old video games and has the physical research evidence to back it up. It’s typical to see every old console….not so typical to see every old computer. Loguidice must be a PC gamer because he has no shortage of PCs, or Macs, or Apples, or Commodores, or basically anything that beeps and runs BASIC, all the way down to the exceptionally obscure Tano Dragon.
As Loguidice tells Kotaku, he used to love collecting, but has now grown weary of it. “I went from an active user to an active storer,” he said to them. “That was never my intention. Once you pass a critical mass of stuff, it’s just too much and you end up being able to use very little of it.”
The most mindblowing thing? The aforementioned picture gallery doesn’t even show everything he has. “There’s just no way to properly explain or show what’s really in this auction,” Loguidice said. “I think whoever is fortunate enough to go to the physical auction will be in for quite an overwhelming surprise.”
