Gears of War 4 Gets Support For Cross-Play Multiplayer
In a move that is becoming more and more common in online competitive multiplayer, Microsoft and The Coalition have added support for cross-play multiplayer to Gears of War 4. This gives players from both the Xbox One and Windows 10 versions of the to play directly against each other for the first time.
The new feature comes after a brief trial in December that saw positive results, prompting the developer to add a special cross-platform playlist into matchmaking. The trial demonstrated that no players on a specific platform had an advantage, with The Coalition stating that “Windows 10 and Xbox players had closely-matched results when comparing Average (kill to death ratio), score, and kills per match based on skill ratings.”
The new playlist will only be available as a social gametype, with ranked matches remaining exclusive to their respective platforms. The studio revealed their reasons for this, saying:
“Despite the closely matched performance between users on both platforms seen in our cross-play test weekend, we always want to ensure our ranked experiences are as closely matched and competitive as possible.”
