George Lucas Gave Advice To Rogue One Crew
Star Wars is a vast franchise, but none of it would’ve been possible without George Lucas starting it all off. And despite the hate he’s received from some fans in regards to the prequel films, he’s still a respected man by the other filmmakers who are now working and exploring his universe with their own work. As a result, Lucas gets an early look at the films when they’re made, and when they’re finished. This includes standalone installment of the franchise, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which comes out in two weeks. Gareth Edwards recently appeared on French TV, and he discussed his experience meeting and speaking to the iconic Star Wars creator and filmmaker. When he got to the set, he gave director Gareth Edwards some advice. The key one? “He said, don’t screw it up,” said Edwards as ComicBook.com reveals
Jokes aside, Edwards acknowledged how gracious Lucas was to be shown it all, especially since this was another Star Wars film he had no part in technically. “I think there are two things that are incredibly surreal that you can do in your life. Number two is having to show George Lucas your Star Wars movie. Like, that was really crazy,” he said. “And I think number one is to be George Lucas and have someone show you a Star Wars movie. So I felt for him, and he was incredibly gracious.”
Lucas himself was also apparently very humorous as he looked around at what was being done. Even poking fun at himself in regards to what to make real and what to do in CGI. “He joked a lot about how we should do more in the computer, and not build so much,” Edwards said. “We didn’t take his advice. We tried to shoot as much in-camera as possible.”
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story releases in theaters on December 16th.

Nice to hear that they are moving back to "in-camera" models rather than CGI after the focus on CGI on the previous films. Done well, practical effects don't seem to date so badly, and it gives something for the actors to react to. I'm really looking forward to this film (huge Star Wars fan!), and already have my tickets booked 🙂 Anyone else?

Like the guy above me said, having more "in-camera" would really bring some old nostalgic memories back. I really like Star Wars, and I'm really looking forward to this movie – but I have a feeling I will be disappointed. I hope I'm wrong.
