Introducing the Nintendo 2DS
Nintendo introduces a new model to their handheld lineup: the Nintendo 2DS. You read that right.
In what is undoubtedly an effort to give consumers an even more economical choice for this coming Holiday season, Nintendo has introduced a new model of their popular handheld. The 2DS has most all of the features of the 3DS with the exclusion of the titular 3D capability. It plays all the games from 3DS and DS, comes with a standard 3DS stylus, can even take 3D pictures to view on any other 3D device, and seems to be packing everything else in the little package except the ability to play in 3D.
The system itself looks a bit odd as it’s a wedge of plastic that reminds me all too much of an ax head. It looks a little cheaper overall, and I’m hesitant about the open access of the screens (mitigated a bit with a included pouch), but overall impressions so far have been positive saying that it is as comfortable as the 3DS (if not more so). The screens themselves are the same size as the original 3DS, so for those of you who are currently toting a 3DS XL your model is still going to have the most screen hardware. Other than these features, and mono speakers, the 2DS looks like the perfect fit for those who want the system, but don’t care at all about the 3D screen.
The 2DS will be available on October 12th in North America for the attractive price point of $129.99.
What do you 3DS hold outs think? Is this enough to make you take the plunge? What do all the fans think about the look of the system? Let us know in the comments below.
