Introducing XX: The All-Female Horror Anthology
Here’s a cool concept: an anthology movie featuring four horror shorts directed by and starring females. Titled XX (get it? ‘Cause…those are the genes women have), the film will make its debut at Sundance Film Festival before being released to the public shortly thereafter.
XX is a female-driven horror anthology with each director given full creative license to tell any story they choose revolving around a female protagonist. While the directors have been given free creative rein within budget and time constraints, all of the segments themselves involve the horror genre.
Attractions are as follows: “THE BIRTHDAY PARTY” directed by Annie Clark (St. Vincent), “HER ONLY LIVING SON,” directed by Karyn Kusama (The Invitation, Girlfight), “DON’T FALL” directed by Roxanne Benjamin (V/H/S trilogy, Southbound), and “THE BOX” directed by Jovanka Vuckovic (former editor of Rue Morgue Magazine). Tying things together will be wraparound segments animated by Sofia Carrillo (something called La Casa Triste).
The promo department isn’t telling what the shorts will be about beyond the glimpses we can catch in the trailer below. They look spooky though. XX will be released to theaters and on-demand platforms February 17.
