Iron Fist: The Cast Grows With Jessica Stroup and More
The cast continues to grow for Marvel and Netflix’s upcoming Iron Fist TV series. Marvel Entertainment has officially confirmed two more cast members to play two of the show’s central characters, with Jessica Stroup (star of The Following) and Tom Pelphrey (Banshee). Stroup and Pelphrey have been cast as Joy and War Meachum respectively, the children of Harold Meachum, who will be played in the series by David Wenham.
In the new Iron Fist show, Joy and Ward are Harold’s kids and the childhood acquaintances of Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist. For the sake of the series’ main story, Joy and Ward play an important role in Rand Enterprises. They have spent most of their lives building the company to its current standing. However, their work is put into jeopardy when Danny Rand returns home to claim his birthright. One slight change is that in the comics that Ward Meachum is the brother of Harold Meachum and the uncle of Joy. Here, Ward is Harold’s son instead.
Commenting on the casting news, executive producer and Marvel Head of TV commented, “With the terrific addition of the very talented Jessica and Tom, we’ve now brought the entire Meachum family together. While Marvel couldn’t be happier, Danny’s mission just got a lot more complicated.”
Executive producer and showrunner for Iron Fist, Scott Buck, added, “I’m very happy to have Jessica and Tom as our Joy and Ward Meachum. Much like Danny Rand’s past is a mystery to us, we’ll discover along the way that the Meachum children have intriguing secrets of their own.”
Stroup and Pelphrey join the main cast opposite Finn Jones as Danny Rand aka Iron Fist, David Wenham as Harold Meachum and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing. In the new show, Danny Rand returns to his home of New York after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element that is corrupting the city with his kung-fu mastery with the ability to summon the power of Iron Fist. Marvel Television is producing the show in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.
The launch date for Marvel’s Iron Fist will be revealed later on. All 13 episodes of the first season will be available to stream at launch exclusively for Netflix.
