It’s Rough To Be The Last Girl Standing
By now everybody knows how a slasher movie works. A bunch of irresponsible younglings congregate in a remote isolated area, do things forbidden by their parents, and are killed off one by one for it, until one (female) character remains — as fearless as she is virtuous, and commonly referred to as the Final Girl. This term has officially entered the zeitgeist with the existence of TWO movies produced in 2015 called “The Final Girl” and “The Final Girls.”
But what happens after that? Does the Final Girl live “happily ever after” once she’s been through an event like this? Probably not, right? Last Girl Standing seeks to extend that story and show what life as a Final Girl would be like after she had lived the experience. Not fun.
Five years ago, a masked killer brutally murdered a group of friends. Since then, Camryn, the lone survivor, has struggled to reclaim her shattered life. Wracked with guilt and paranoia, Camryn leads a depressingly lonely existence until Nick, a new co-worker, befriends her and attempts to integrate her into his group of friends.
But just when she might be ready to start a new life, Camryn’s past comes back to haunt her. Can she ever have a life again, or is she destined to be alone?
Last Girl Standing is a low-budget indie film starring Akasha Villalobos (Now Hiring, Camera Obscura) as Camryn, Danielle Evon Ploeger (Wind & Rain), Brian Villalobos (Saratoga Lights), and Jason Vines (The Man from Orlando). It had its world premiere at London’s FrightFest, and Akasha Villalobos won as Best Actress at both the New York City Horror Film Festival and Tucson Terrorfest.
You’ll be able to see Last Girl Standing beginning November 1, when it’s released to DVD and digital.
