Jeffrey Dean Morgan Thinks Negan Is a Hero
Perspective is everything in many things. Where you are, and even who you are, in regards to certain situations, scenarios, and outcomes will lend to whether you think things went right or wrong. With the Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead coming up this Sunday, more and more details and tidbits are coming out about the season and the characters we’ll be seeing more of, including the villainous Negan. However, the actor who plays Negan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, noted to Cinema Blend that in his eyes, Negan could actually be seen as the hero from a different perspective.
Morgan stated, “I see the other side of the coin. If we followed Negan’s story for the last seven years, he’d be our hero, and someone like Rick, who rips the throat out of people, would be the bad guy.”
When asked about how that would apply with the death coming in the premiere, he wisely noted: “No matter who Negan kills, Rick and his survivors still killed 20 or 30 of my men. So, yeah, we keep kind of forgetting about that in the evilness that is Negan. So it’s walking a little bit of a tightrope with the character and trying to make him real. But at the same time, I’m feeling justified in whatever I’m doing.”
The Walking Dead Season 7 premieres this Sunday, October 23. Additionally, the show has already been renewed for an eighth season by AMC.
