Jennifer Lawerence Returns For X-Men: Dark Phoenix Because Of Director
When Jennifer Lawerence was cast as Mystique in X-Men: First Class, she was still very new to the scene. But because of Hunger Games and other films her stardom boomed. And so, when her three-picture contract with X-Men ended with Apocalypse, many thought she would be done with Mystique for good. Turns out, she was…until she heard that Simon Kinberg was going to direct the film.
“I kind of f—ed myself,” Lawrence told Entertainment Weekly. “Because when I was trying to talk Simon into directing, he said something like, ‘If I direct it, you have to do it,’ and I was like, ‘Of course! Duh!’ Then they offered me the movie, and I was like, ‘Goddammit!’”
“It was the fan base, though, too — the other reason was for the fans,” she added.
Mystique for sure has been one of the highlights of the new saga of films, and Lawerence’s role has grown in each one, with her being the catalyst even for Days of Future Past. And by the end of Apocalypse, she was one of the teachers and generals of the X-Men. How her role in Dark Phoenix will develop is still up in the air, but we’re sure she’ll had a big part to play.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix arrives November 2nd, 2018.
