Joss Whedon Gearing Up To Direct Batgirl Movie
Looks like Joss Whedon’s retirement from superhero movies has officially ended. Today Variety broke the news that Warner Bros. is considering bringing the man on to direct a Batgirl feature film.
Joss swore off directing big-budget superhero films after 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, which received mixed opinions that he agreed with. He wasn’t proud of the film and said he needed to take some time off afterward. The vacation is over, and he’s now working for the Other Side. “Strong independent women” are Joss’s well-known specialty (when they aren’t Black Widow), and anybody who isn’t Zack Snyder is welcome in my book.
The project is very young — movement only started at WB within the last month. But if Variety’s wording is correct about Batgirl being the “second” female-led DC super-flick, it could mean Sirens, the Suicide Squadf spinoff directed by David Ayer, may have been pushed down the schedule in favor of this. Which would make sense — Batgirl is supposed to appear in Sirens and it would help if the audience was already familiar with her.
