Last Of Us Part 2 Announced At PSX
At the PlayStation Experience today, Sony announced a sequel to the beloved game The Last Of Us. Titled simply The Last Of Us Part 2, the game will once again feature main characters Joel and Ellie. However, they will be older than they were in the first game.
Along with a reveal trailer, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann went to the PlayStation Blog to note that this game was anything but a certainty, and that it literally took years to capture a story that felt true to what they had done with the original:
“I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey.
It’s still early days for the project—the game’s release is a ways off—but we couldn’t wait any longer to give you a glimpse of what’s to come. We’re going to let the trailer speak for itself, but expect more information about The Last of Us Part II in the coming months.”

I have mixed feelings about this. The first game was so good, but it wrapped the story up completely. There weren't any real loose ends to lead to a sequel. I'm worried that the two routes I can see them taking: a retread of the first game with another downer ending, or Saving The World! would both detract from what came before rather than adding to it.
I'll probably still buy it though!
