LEGO Worlds Announced, To Compete With Minecraft
They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and in many ways it is. In the last couple of years, the video game industry has gone through a plethora of “imitations”. From the motion control saga, to mimicking other companies titles, to the figurine boom, it’s a never-ending thing. LEGO, has now entered the ring twice in the imitation game. First came LEGO Dimensions, it’s answer to the Skylanders series. Now, LEGO is coming with a competitor to Minecraft, which is simply titled: LEGO Worlds. The announcement of LEGO Worlds was made this week by Warner Bros. Interactive and TT Games.
LEGO Worlds will have a limitless collection to alter procedurally generated worlds,” in which, yes, you can build anything you want brick by brick. The game will be made by TT Games and is actually on Steam Early Access right now. Players who want to join the Early Access experience for LEGO worlds will have to download the STEAM client and then visit the LEGO Worlds product page to download the game here for $14.99.
TT Games Managing Director Tom Stone stated on the release: “LEGO Worlds embodies the physical, LEGO brick-building fun that consumers have enjoyed for decades, on a digital platform that delivers an entirely new type of experience with the beloved bricks. From the brick-by-brick editor, to discovering an expansive range of items, characters and creatures to populate your worlds – the creative possibilities are endless.”
Endless indeed. It’ll be very interesting to see how this game differs from Minecraft, and how much LEGO-isms gamers will be able to find and interact with. You can get a look at LEGO Worlds with the trailer for the game below.
