Mark Hamill Didn't Need Persuasion to Join Star Citizen
If we’re being totally honest, 2015 might have truly been the “Year of Mark Hamill”. Why? Because in one year, he reprised three of his legendary roles, The Joker (for Batman: Arkham Knight), The Trickster (for The Flash seasons 01 and 02), and of course, he was Luke Skywalker again in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
But, one other interesting part he recorded in 2015 was that of Lt. Commander Steve ‘Old Man’ Colton, for Star Citizen’s Squadron 42. Mark Hamill is no stranger to video games, as he famously Wing Commander in the 90’s. Funnily enough, he didn’t need much persuading to join the game.
“I had such a great time the first time around,” Hamill told PC Gamer. When he asked to join the cast of Squadron 42, Hamill said he didn’t need to see the script. “I said ‘count me in!’ Of course my agent said, ‘you didn’t tell him that, did you? Play hard to get for God’s sake!”
He did note that motion-capture was very new to him:
“You spend a lifetime on movie sets, doing television and what-not, and you think you know something. Here you’re going back and learning it all over again. Everyone’s wearing the same thing—a body suit with little balls all over—regardless of whether you’re the star or an extra. And you’ve got to be comfortable with playing pretend
Star Citizen went into beta in December, but there’s no definitive release date for it or the Squadron 42 part of the game.
