Mark Hamill Doesn’t Like Star Wars Prequel Bashers
The Star Wars Prequels are a big point of contention for Star Wars fans. On one hand, it gave us the full Jedi Order, showed us how the Empire took over, had major lightsaber battles, and more. But, it also gave us Jar-Jar Binks, a lot of CGI scenes and characters, and some very wooden acting performances. However, the prequels and young Anakin Skywalker actor Jake Lloyd, have earned a staunch defender in the form of a prolific Star Wars franchise star.
Mark Hamill, the man who plays Luke Skywalker, while he is fine with peoples opinions, he can’t believe the level that people took it to for the Star Wars prequels. Speaking to Vulture, Hamill stated, “I couldn’t believe some of the things they wrote about the prequels.”
And not just the insults that were hurled at George Lucas, but also, the hate that was thrown at the young actor who played the young Anakin Skywaker, Jake Lloyd. “He was only ten years old,” Hamill continued, adding that Lloyd “did exactly what George [Lucas] wanted him to do.”
In fact, the hate for him was so great, that he actually changed his name and left the movie business. This is one of the reasons why Hamill himself said he won’t let his kids go into films until they’re adults because it can be a traumatic thing. Hamill also states that while he has his own issues with George Lucas, he still loves the man and respects him greatly.
Hamill will next appear on film as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which arrives in theaters on December 15.
