Meet Brec Bassinger, AKA Stargirl
Warner Bros. and DC have announced that they have cast actress Brec Bassinger (no relation to Kim, this one has two “S”es) as the superhero Stargirl in their upcoming series of the same name.
Stargirl already made her television debut in a few scenes of Legends of Tomorrow’s second season, where she was played by someone else. This new show will not only have nothing to do with the LoT appearance, but it won’t even be part of the Berlantiverse, nor will it run on The CW. “Stargirl” is intended for DC Universe, Warners’ new Bat-themed streaming service. (Berlanti is INVOLVED (because of course he is) but it’s not connected.)
Stargirl creator Geoff Johns had some nice things to say about Brec in a publicly released statement: “There is no other character in comic books more special to me than Stargirl, and after searching far and wide I can say there is no other actor on the planet that embodies her more than Brec Bassinger. Brec’s warmth, strength, humor and positive energy are core to who Courtney Whitmore is. I’m so grateful she’s signed on for the role.” Johns will also be writing the pilot episode.
It’ll be a while before we see Courtney Whitmore grab her father’s cosmic staff and suit up in her spangled outfit, but we’ll let you know when the series gets closer to a release date.
