Microsoft Pledges to Support Rare
In an interview with Eurogamer, Microsoft has pledged to support Rare, despite recent layoffs and its decision to stop bundling Kinect with the Xbox One. Microsoft Studios chief Phil Spencer told Eurogamer that he is happy to alleviate any fears that Microsoft has abandoned Rare.
“I’m very happy to go on record to alleviate any of those concerns you might have,” he said. “We are very fortunate in having Rare and Lionhead in the UK as crown jewels of Microsoft Studios.” Spencer also revealed in the interview that Rare is working new games but will announce them when the time is right.
“Rare is working on a couple of things at the moment,” he said, “which we will announce at the right time. But I’m really excited by the things they’re doing and I believe you will be as well when you hear about them.
“Rare is an incredible talent and they have some very very ambitious plans for the future and we’re supporting them in every way we can,” he added. Rare’s last three games exclusively used the Kinect: Kinect Sports and Kinect Sports Season 2 for the Xbox 360 and Kinect Sports Rivals for the Xbox One. Rare also released Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts for the Xbox 360 in 2008. For the immediate future, diehard Rare fans can look forward to Conker’s appearance in Project Spark, set to be released this fall for the Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
