Morbius Movie Gets Star Via Jared Leto
You might know him from Millionaires Buyers Club, or, you might know him as the Joker from Suicide Squad, but if Sony is able to do what they want, Jared Leto is going to be starting in the Spider-Man spinoff movie, Morbius. For those who don’t know, Michael Morbius was a Spider-Man character who was doing research on Spider-Man before accidentally being turned into a vampire. Since then, he has both battled Spidey and been his reluctant ally. He’s even been featured in various animated series, including the legendary 90’s Spider-Man cartoon.
This is Sony’s latest attempt to get another Spider-verse character into a movie. Venom is the only confirmed film to be coming out, and that’s arriving this October. The other spinoff film that was supposed to come was a team-up movie between Black Cat and Silver Sable, but, that got shelved due to script issues apparently. However, with the announcement that Leto is going to be Morbius, that does raise hopes that this film will get made. It’s going to be directed by Daniel Espinosa and will get a screenplay by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, so that’s progress as well.
Oh, and if you’re wondering if this means Leto is out of the role as Joker, that’s not the case. Apparently, he worked his schedule so he can be Joker and Morbius without conflict. Though at present, it’s unclear when and where Leto will return as Joker. At first, it was supposed to be Suicide Squad 2, then that changed to a Joker vs Harley movie, and then a Joker solo film, and now maybe Birds of Prey. It’s very unclear. Just as unclear is the release date for this Spider-Man spinoff.
