New Image From The Alien: Covenant Set
This week marks the 79th birthday of Ridley Scott, director of two of the most influential science fiction films ever made: Blade Runner and Alien. He’s going back to both this year with Alien: Covenant and Blade Runner 2049 on his schedule, though he is only producing the Blade Runner sequel. With Alien he’s all hands-on.
And on the occasion of his birthday, Scott tweeted this new photo of him relaxing on what appears to be the Alien: Covenant set. It could just as easily be the Prometheus set, though, with the very recognizable set piece of a Space Jockey in a cockpit. Actually, they’re called “Engineers” now because they created both xenomorphs and the human race, a piece of Ridley canon I prefer to pretend does not exist.
Maybe Scott spoiling every mystery in the Alien universe wouldn’t be half as irritating if it wasn’t also preventing Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5 from being made. It’ll bring back Ripley, Colonel Hicks and maybe even a grown-up Newt, but Fox won’t pull the trigger on Neill’s script until Scott is finished with his prequel-telling. Sigourney Weaver recently spoke to Variety about waiting to shoot: “I hope that Neill Blomkamp and I will eventually get back to it. He’s written such a wonderful script. I look forward to finishing Ripley’s story.“
Alien: Covenant releases May 19. 2017.
