New Line Moves Forward With Conjuring 3
New Line Cinema, the studio behind one of modern horror’s biggest success stories (The Conjuring and its sequel), has begun production on a third film in the series, they announced today. David Leslie Johnson, who wrote The Conjuring 2, will return to write the third movie….but what of the most important ingredient, the scary movie knowhow of director James Wan? Without Wan you’d have….well, Annabelle.
The good news is that Wan will be involved in the production of Conjuring 3 in some capacity, but the bad news is he won’t be as involved as he once was. His directorial duties are currently tied up in an Aquaman movie for Warner Bros, due out in late 2018. Wan is serving as producer on Conjuring 3, not director.
New Line hasn’t announced who will be filling Wan’s shoes yet, but we do know Conjuring 3 will differ from its predecessors in that it won’t take place in a haunted house. Peter Safran, another producer involved in Wan’s production company, told Cinema Blend “Clearly we can’t do another haunted house movie, right? We can’t do another supernatural possession in a house, with a family in peril. Right? So, it’s got to be something different than that, I think.”
The stories the Conjuring movies use are pulled from the bestselling books by Ed and Lorraine Warren, and not all of them take place in haunted houses. “There are some [cases] that maybe aren’t as well known, but they spent a fair bit of time researching and were part of [them],” said Safran. Whether you believe those books or not, there’s enough fodder for multiple future films.
And we will get them. New Line is spreading the Conjuring universe as thin as they can — spinoff flicks are in production for the specters (such as the nun) introduced in Conjuring 2. We don’t know what kind of monster the Warrens will run into in Conjuring 3, we just know it will get its own movie at some point.

I could go for another Conjuring movie. I really liked the other ones. I also seen Annabelle and am looking forward to the new one coming out soon. I am a fan of Lorraine Warren and the work that she and her husband have spent their lives doing.
I look forward to seeing what direction they take the movie if it is not going to be a haunted house .

Sounds interesting, though I really never saw any of the conjuring movies. I should really go and check out the series, might be best if I plan on seeing this movie in the near future. Sounds like it could be a real thrill to watch.

I have seen The Conjuring, but it isn't as scary and as good as Insidious. I won't mind seeing the film just to see if I would like it or not, but I'm not really that keen.

I have heard about this horror franchise. However, I am yet to watch any Conjuring movies. I have checked out promos and they look fearfully attractive. I enjoy horror movies, some of my best movies are actually horror movies (The Omen, The Exorcist etc.) I have not watched Conjuring does not mean I don't have interest. I just don't have time to watch a movie these days
