Next Assassin's Creed Game Might Wait Until 2017
According to a report by Kotaku, the next big Assassin’s Creed installment in the hit video game franchise might not hit the shelves until 2017. That means the mainline franchise might take a year off after the release of last year’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Ubisoft has released a major Assassin’s Creed game every year since 2009, over six years running.
The next installment is speculated to be code-named “Empire” and would be set in angient Egypt. Going by Kotaku sources, the next game is not expected to be out until 2017. Apparently, the reason for the decision to let the game sit and marinate more was due to the disappointing release for Assassin’s Creed Unity in 2014. That aforementioned game was launched with numerous problems and bugs, which fans and critics were very vocal about. The wait would reportedly allow the developers for the next Creed game to polish and improve the title. In addition, this could be the start of a bi-annual release for the franchise rather than trying to get a new major release every year.
Trying to release a new franchise installment every year can definitely be overkill. Ubisoft finally taking this route to spend more time on overall improvement of each game, rather than trying to rush a new one out every year could be a more responsible and mature move for the publisher.
The next Assassin’s Creed game has not yet been officially announced. However, the other episodes of the Chronicles trilogy will be due out later this year. Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India is due out on January 12. Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia is due out on February 9. Finally, the Chronicles: Trilogy Pack will be available on February 9 as well for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. The PS Vita version of the trilogy pack will be available on April 5.
