Next Console Zelda Game Could Have Multiplayer
While not new to the Legend of Zelda franchise, as Four Swords and Tri-Force Heroes had it, the idea of a console Zelda game having multiplayer has long been a desire by fans. While it’s clear that the upcoming Breath of the Wild won’t have it, according to producer Eiji Aonuma, it could be in the one after:
“I would like to take what I learned from Breath of the Wild and see if we can somehow fuse those learning points into another multiplayer Zelda,” Aonuma told IGN at E3 2016. “For example, with Triforce Heroes, which followed a similar format of Four Swords, there was a multiplayer involved in that game.”
He goes on:
“That’s definitely a possibility and we will continue to [experiment] throughout the Zelda franchise,“ he added.
The reason this was discussed was because during a Nintendo Direct, Aonuma noted that he wanted to change the way Legend of Zelda was played. Two of the ways he noted that were staples of the franchise were “completing dungeons in a certain order” and “playing by yourself”. Not long after this, A Link Between Worlds came out, which allowed you to play any dungeon at any time, then of course Tri-Force Heroes brought three player co-op to the franchise.
Now, it appears the team is already thinking of how to innovate Zelda on the console level.
