Nintendo Switch Now Has Hulu
One of the chief complaints thrown at Nintendo’s Switch when it launched last March was the complete lack of streaming apps. By 2017 we’ve gotten used to our toys just having things like that built in; heck, the Wii U launched with Netflix, Hulu and Amazon ready to go.
We may never know the reason why they slacked off on this, but it’s starting to remedy itself: as of today there’s a Hulu app available for Switch. Presumably, the other mainstays will soon follow.
“We are very proud to announce that Hulu is the first US streaming entertainment service to debut on Nintendo Switch!” boasted Hulu vice president of product Richard Irving. “Beginning later today, Hulu subscribers will now be able to use their Nintendo Switch to stream all of their favorite TV whether they’re at home or on the go.”
Now you can take your depressing dystopian melodramas anywhere you go, but if that’s not what you’re into, Hulu’s also got plenty of TV favorites from the past that Netflix recently abandoned. Futurama, Buffy, 30 Rock, Bob’s Burgers and others now call Hulu their streaming home. This also means you can now pipe cable channel feeds into the Switch, as Hulu started up their own streaming cable alternative earlier this year. Plus, don’t forget Runaways — I won’t let you.
The big downside to Hulu is that their basic service comes with ads, and removing them costs extra. As for the other big streamers, no word yet exactly when they’re coming. Hulu was sprung on us without warning; Netflix and Amazon will likely appear the same way.
