Nintendo Will Unveil New Third-Party Partnerships at E3?
For the big three (Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo), there’s a two part strategy when it comes to selling both consoles and games. First off, you need to have a strong first-party lineup, the games that come from publishers under your banner, and only your banner. These exclusives bring hype to your console, and show the uniqueness it has over the others. Then, there’s the third-party titles, which helps expand the roster of games you have for your consoles, and gives you a chance to make your console look better than others. These titles could also show you have the pull to get third-party companies to make games exclusively for it. Nintendo has an “interesting” relationship with third-party companies. At times, the games are good, but in recent years they’ve been few and far between. This has caused worry among gamers that Nintendo won’t be able to survive without more support from these companies.
Well, during an interview with Alphabeatic, Nintendo Canada general manager Pierre-Paul Trepanier dropped a bit of news that might prove Nintendo is getting some new third-party partnerships:
“We would love to have [them] and you’ll hear in a few weeks about some interesting partnerships. We’ve already over the past year opened up and aggressively sought licensing deals in lots of different areas. In the video game space you’ve seen Nintendo characters appear in other game worlds. It’s also happening outside the game world, with the Universal Studios partnership that will bring Nintendo to fans and families through theme parks.”
We honestly may not have to wait weeks, but mere days, as E3 is coming soon. With the news that’s already breaking before hand, it makes you wonder what Nintendo has in store for us.
