No Man’s Sky Reportedly Under Investigation by Advertising Authority
It looks like No Man’s Sky could be in trouble for over-promising on features that fans believe did not make it into the final product of the game. According to a report by Gamezone, the Advertising Standards Authority or ASA is currently investigating the controversial game after receiving “several complaints” against it. Previously, the game went below 1,000 players on Steam after its release earlier this year.
The game was one of the most anticipated released of the year. It hit the PlayStation 4 and Windows PC last August. However, a lot of gamers were disappointed with the final product. Some fans claimed the game falsely advertised many features that were perpetuated by Hello Games creative director Sean Murray. The complaints against the title reportedly did not just include false advertisement, but also the bugs that led to players refunding or stop playing the game entirely.
No official details on the ASA investigation have been revealed. In the past, Sony PlayStation’s president did critique Murray for the game’s advertising issue and over-promising for the release. According to the report, Hello Games and Steam are legally required to respond to the ASA, but no other details are available as of yet.
In the event that Hello Games and Valve are found guilty of the complaints, the companies could face penalties and potential fines. The offending advertisements would also have to be removed. No Man’s Sky is still available for PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.
