Notch’s New Game Revealed! 0x10c
From the man himself, Notch’s newest game has been revealed and will follow a similar route as Minecraft did being released very early in development to allow gamers to help shape the game’s final build. More information inside!
It took a little while but, Markus ‘Notch’ Persson’s new game has finally been revealed and there are some interesting details that have popped up today on just what the game will be about.
The game is a space game set in an alternate reality “where the space race never ended and space travel was gaining popularity amongst corporations and rich individuals”. To keep it short, an error occurred in the computers overseeing the human sleep cycles while the spacecrafts ventured out into the unknown. The first humans finally started to wake up in the year 281,474,976,712,644 AD!
The most interesting part of the game is that the ship runs on a fixed wattage which must be balanced and will be a core gameplay element. “The computer in the game is a fully functioning emulated 16 bit CPU that can be used to control your entire ship, or just to play games on while waiting for a large mining operation to finish”, says Notch.
The team will attempt to include many elements with these specifically noted:
- Hard science fiction.
- Lots of engineering.
- Fully working computer system.
- Space battles against the AI or other players.
- Abandoned ships full of loot.
- Duct tape!
- Seamlessly landing on planets.
- Advanced economy system.
- Random encounters.
- Mining, trading, and looting.
- Single and multi player connected via the multiverse.
Yes, duct tape!
0x10c’s price is still up in the air at this point however Notch notes that players will likely have to pay a monthly fee to join the Multiverse and “we are going to emulate all computers and physics even when players aren’t logged in”. Single player will be free of recurring fees if players want to go that route.
I for one am excited for this one, it sounds like the team has a very promising concept on paper, let’s see if it translates well to the screen. If Minecraft is any indication, we have nothing to worry about!
