Oculus Founder Skips Own Event
The founder of Oculus, Palmer Luckey, has apparently skipped the Oculus 3 event. But the reason he did so is what is very curious. According to Polygon, he did it so he himself not be a “distraction” for the event.
“Palmer decided not to attend OC3 because he didn’t want to be a distraction,” Oculus co-founder and Vice President of Product Nate Mitchell told the outlet. “Palmer absolutely decided that he was not going to be here.”
Why would he be a distraction? Well, it came to light recently that Luckey may have made certain contributions to a political non-profit, which apparently landed him in very hot water.
According to Polygon, this move was an effort by the company to show, rather than tell, just where its priorities as a company lie.
“So there isn’t much of a strategy. I think that for us, we want to continue to show people who we really are,” Mitchell said. “What we stand for, who we are as a company. I think Oculus Connect 3 reflects that in a big, big way. I think that if you talk to the developers who work with us and know us I think they were surprised at some of the media articles about Palmer and the whole situation.”
