Overwatch Reaches 20 Million Players
Blizzard used a press release today to reveal that they have no reached more than 20 million players since release, making the game one of the most successful launches in recent times.
The success is even more remarkable considering how Overwatch has only been available for some five months and is a full retail game rather than a free-to-play title like Team Fortress 2. While 20 million players may not equate exactly with that many sales, it is likely that the game is approaching the kind of sale numbers that only blockbuster titles like Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto can achieve.
Overwatch is currently hosting a Halloween Terror event. This means that Loot Boxes have been changed to jack-o-lanterns that contain specially made spooky content and a new horse mode has been introduced to give players the chance to battle a variety of new enemies. The new cosmetic items include profile icons, sprays, victory poses, skins, emotes, amongst a variety of other items.
Last week, the developer revealed that they were currently in the midst of working on a host of new content. This included brand new maps and characters, though the majority of them were nowhere near a complete stage and would likely not be released anytime soon.
