Kung Fu Ghost Targeted For Summer 2021 Release
Remember Kung Fu Ghost? We reported on the production of this crazy little film nearly a year ago, and it looks like the editing is nearly done. A release window of Summer 2021 has been announced. This film was brought into existence through the sheer will of Jennifer N. Linch. She directed it, she stars in it, and she’s the founder and CEO of the company making it, Nameless Studio. Linch plays Daisy, a woman who just inherited a spooky old mansion from her recently deceased grandfather. When Daisy travels to the mansion, she finds Granddad waiting right there for her — well, his ghost, anyway. In his time, he was a great martial arts master, and his afterlife mission is to pass on his skills to Daisy. She’s going to need them sooner than she thinks, as a gang of thieves descends on the mansion to rob it of its valuables. Linch says the project was driven by her passion for both martial arts and the movies that glorify
Jiang Ziya Now Has An English Dub Trailer
There WILL be an English dub for the Chinese animated epic Jiang Ziya — and the trailer released by Well Go USA today is proof. Originally, Jiang Ziya was going to make its theatrical debut in this country on February 7, 2020. Various delays occurred (not all of them COVID-related if the original date was February) and it did not see the silver screen until October. You most likely missed it then, but it’s coming to home theater formats about a year later. The film comes from Beijing Enlight Pictures, who produces CGI-animated movies based on Chinese lore for a primarily Chinese audience. Their first effort, Ne Zha, was a major hit in its home country, raking in the converted-to-dollars number of $720 million. The fanbase for such movies is more limited here, but that doesn’t mean we won’t have the chance to see them. Well Go USA Entertainment specializes in bringing culturally specific movies like this to America, and they’ve announced the acquisition of Jiang Ziya, to be released
Dick Van Dyke Worked As Consultant On WandaVision
Marvel’s WandaVision is (at least so far) a recreation of kitschy midcentury sitcoms starring Scarlet Witch and Vision from The Avengers movies. We’re told it’ll eventually go off in a wilder direction, but the first few episodes are pretty much a spot-on imitation of I Love Lucy mixed with Bewitched. To nail that feel, though, the producers needed someone who had worked on the inside. So they called on Dick Van Dyke — older than dirt, yet spry enough to run down to the studio, trip over an ottoman, walk in and contribute. Matt Shakman, series director, spoke with ETOnline.com about his experience working with Van Dyke. The first step was to inform him what WandaVision was. The second step was to inform him what the Marvel Cinematic Universe was. “He did say at one point during our lunch, “Oh, I hear you guys have had some great success. That’s wonderful. Congratulations. What did you just put out?” Van Dyke was told Avengers: Endgame, and think about that for a
It Sure Sounds Like The Flash Is Recasting Elongated Man
The first episode of Batwoman Number Two aired last night, to mixed reactions from both fans and critics. The most positive thing I’ve heard is that the new Bat has a more interesting personality than the statue that was Ruby Rose, but it’s faint praise. Personally, I thought the episode was a trainwreck. There was no believable way to integrate a complete stranger with no connection to the Kanes or the Foxes into the Batcave, especially within one hour, but Luke and Mary were somehow mesmerized by Ryan Wilder’s pretty speeches nearly instantly. And I don’t know who thought of the idea for making Ryan talk to a plant in her van, but it’s goofy as hell, emphasized by the moment when Hush knocked the plant over during the episode’s climactic fight and Ryan howled “NOOOOOO!” All this could have been avoided by just recasting Kate, but Berlanti Industries Inc. decided against that. Are they just against recasts in general? Apparently not…we’re now hearing that when The Flash returns late
Editorial: 5 80s Things I Dislike
As I’ve written about for various websites throughout my life, my favorite decade for pop culture is the 1980s. Whether in interviews or opinion pieces, the 80s is a recurring topic of mine for how they helped me through the dark times and led to the light of a better day. A question I rarely ask myself, though, is this: Is there anything from the 80s that I dislike? Is there anything from my favorite decade for pop culture that causes me to recoil in annoyance or disgust? Believe it or not, there is. While I greatly prefer the 80s to the 90s, here are five things from the 80s that I dislike, things that even I, a hardcore 80s pop culture fan, will not defend. I’ll start off my list with Bill Cosby. I used to be a Bill Cosby fan. As late as 2014, when I first started writing for Pop Geeks, I talked about how the concept of the father figure on a sitcom was treated better
Mortal Kombat: An Early Look at the upcoming film
It will be a long wait for April 2021, which is the release date of the upcoming Mortal Kombat film. Somehow we still get a bit of what’s coming because the official Twitter account fo the MK film releases some pictures Finish him!! Mortal Kombat movie is coming! We don’t have a trailer yet but these images are enough to hype us. I can’t judge their acting yet because it is only pictures but the cast visually gave their characters justice. This is Indonesian Actor Joe Taslim as Sub Zero. I don’t know which version of Subzero he will be playing. Is he going to be the evil Bi-han or the heroic Kuai Liang? Ludi Lin of Power Rangers reboot fame and Max Huang are the lead roles as the cousins Liu Kang and Kung Lao. They don’t have the Physique of the characters they play because it is an unrealistic body type but they do look like Liu Kang and Kung Lao in spirit. Mehcad Brooks from Supergirl
The Game Awards 2023: Full Winners List
Lately The Game Awards has become far more trailer than show, with host Geoff Keighley having to speed through a lot of categories tonight just to fit in all the announcements, commercials and paid stunts. It’s become a compact E3 of sorts, except it takes place within just three hours’ time. The winner of the evening was Baldur’s Gate 3, which walked home with five awards including Best Multiplayer, Best RPG and the coveted Game of the Year. Runner-up was Alan Wake 2 for XBox, which got three awards including Best Narrative. Tears of the Kingdom got Best Action Adventure Game, Best Fighting Game went to Street Fighter 6 and Best Sim/Strategy was awarded to Pikmin 4. Best Indie Game was one of the categories Keighley rushed over, and Sea of Stars deserves a little more attention than that. As for the gazillion game titles announced at the Game Awards tonight, you’ll have to wait for us to catch our breath a bit. The biggest ones will be covered in
Budget Biomorphs: The Making of The Guyver Films Review
The story behind the making of cult films is often more extraordinary than the final product itself, such is the case with The Guyver series of sci-fi action creature features from the early 90’s. Budget Biomorphs: The Making of The Guyver Films by Dom O’Brien finds the author transforming his personal passion for this unique pair of genre films into a well-crafted, engaging narrative filled with insight and photos from all the major players that brought this Japanese manga/anime property to live action for American audiences. My passion for The Guyver is very close to that of O’Brien (though it did not drive me to write a book), in that I discovered the first film on the video rental store shelf in the early 90’s and was mesmerized by its unique blend of horror, comedy and choreographed violence. I had never seen anything like it and found myself renting it multiple times to share with friends. I soon bought my own copy on VHS and tracked down the sequel as
