Paradox Backs Down Over Price Rise Controversy
Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester has confirmed that the company is reversing its recent price hike of its titles. Several weeks ago, the publisher raised the cost of its games in several markets, including the UK, as it sought to harmonize prices around the world. This saw the company receive negative feedback from many players who felt that the company was ripping off long-time fans to satisfy new part-owner Tencent.
“All you need to know is that the buck stops here,” he said in a post on the company’s forums. “All problems/feedback can easily be sent my way, I will not always agree but I promise to listen. For anyone who bought any of the games during this time (including during the summer sale) we will try to refund (if possible in the Steam platform) or reimburse with games of a value exceeding the difference.”
If they are unable to carry out these actions due to limitations with the Steam platform, the CEO revealed they will instead double the amount that has been paid in terms of extra revenue and donate it to the UN’s refugee charity the UNHCR.
Paradox had previously defended the move, steadfastly sticking by its decision to raise the prices of its titles on Steam. A statement released just 48 hours ago seemed to confirm that the decision was final, yet the company eventually backed down due to player pressure.
