PAX West: Final Fantasy XV Gets New Trailer
Final Fantasy XV is taking a break from showing off its magic, monsters, and combat to give potential players a chance to soak in the natural beauty of its land. This trailer from PAX West takes a more subtle approach to selling the game, focusing on an area not too many have focused on just yet: Its landscapes. You can watch the new Final Fantasy XV trailer below.
Noctis narrates while a camera takes players through the time-lapsed world of Eos. Floating cliffs, sprawling urban centers, majestic castles, and dangerous forests, the series has never been one for pure Lord of the Rings high fantasy, but neither has it been one for pure science fiction either. The series has always played by its own rules when creating its worlds and blending the boundaries between fantasy and sci-fi, and this is the closest that Final Fantasy has come to the older games in a very long time. Between Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XV, someone at Square Enix now clearly grew up playing the games from earliest in the series, because it hasn’t been in touch with its roots for nearly a decade and a half.
On a funnier note, Square Enix has teamed up with Uber to send Chocobo themed cars throughout Seattle, just for PAX West. If you ride in one of these to the convention, you’ll earn a change for sweet Final Fantasy XV swag. Final Fantasy XV will launch for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Nov. 29. Originally the game was supposed to be out sooner, but was delayed.
According to Square Enix in a statement at the time, the delay was meant “to create a level of freedom and realism previously unseen in the series” and that they need “a little bit more time to deliver on this vision and are confident that this new release date will help us achieve this.”
Further adding to the statement is Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata:
“As the director and lead of this project, I wish to personally apologize for the additional wait. As a team, we want Final Fantasy XV to achieve a level of perfection that our fans deserve. We kindly ask for your understanding.”
