PlayStation VR Set for October Launch for $399
Sony Computer Entertainment has officially announced the released period and price point for the upcoming PlayStation VR hardware. The upcoming dedicated VR headset for the PlayStation 4 is set to launch in October in Japan, North America, Europe and Asia. The suggested retail price for the hardware is $399 USD/$399 CAD.
Speaking on the announcement SCE President and Global CEO Andrew House stated: “Ever since we unveiled PS VR during the 2014 Game Developers Conference, we’ve received a tremendous response from gamers and developers alike. To make sure that we are able to prepare and deliver enough units of PS VR and a wide variety of software titles to consumers worldwide, we have decided to launch PS VR in October 2016. For those who are looking forward to its launch, we would like to thank everyone for their patience and continued support. We are beyond excited to deliver to consumers the amazing experience that PS VR offers.”
The timeframe for the release is somewhat later than what was initially discussed. Per the announcement, PlayStation has over 230 developers making content for the hardware and over 50 games will be available at launch until the end of the year.
PlayStation also confirmed that Playroom VR from Japan Studio will be available as a free download at the PlayStation Store for all PS VR owners at the time of the headset’s launch. The PlayRoom VR will feature six games that can be experienced with friends and family. The PlayStation VR will launch in October for PlayStation 4. The final launch date will be revealed later on.
