Power Rangers: Bill Hader Joins the Cast as Alpha 5
The first trailer isn’t out yet for the new live-action Power Rangers movie, but some more dynamite casting news for the film landed this week, some of which was very exciting for fans. Lionsgate Studios confirmed that comedian and actor Bill Hader had been cast in the movie as Alpha 5, the longtime robot helper of the Power Rangers who first appeared in the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series. You can check out the announcement tweet below.
Bill Hader seems like another strong addition to a growing and talented cast, joining the likes of Bryan Cranston as Zordon and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa. One imagines that Hader will merely be lending his voice to the character, since Alpha 5 in the past has always been a diminutive robot. However, it begs the question if Alpha 5 will be a practical mechanical creation, or a CG character who Hader will voice? Or will Alpha 5 not even be a robot at all? Maybe this time around, he will be a computer program or a disembodied computer AI.
Power Rangers is slated for a March 24, 2017 release date. Here’s official synopsis for the movie.
Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.
