PS4 will support HDMI gameplay capture
Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that users will be able to capture PlayStation 4 gameplay footage via HDMI, ending worries that its next generation console will be hampered by High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) restrictions.
The reassuring message was relayed during PlayStation’s press conference at the Tokyo Game Show, followed by this Tweet from Sony’s head of third-party relations Brad Douglas minutes later:
I think we just announced that we’re going to allow video capture of games over HDMI! “Details will follow soon.”

For the uninitiated, this means that YouTubers, Twitchers and the like can use their preferred video capture device, such as the popular Elgato Game Capture HD, to record their exploits instead of having to rely on the DualShock 4’s rather limited Share button. Our friends at Armed with Controllers will be overjoyed…
The PlayStation 4 will usher in a new era of gaming on November 15th in North America, November 29th in Europe and Australia, and will reach Japan and Asia in early 2014.
