Rainbow Six: Patriots Could Be Next-Gen
At the end of 2011, Ubisoft’s next installment of Rainbow Six came onto our radars with the release of this early concept footage.
Both gritty and controversial, Rainbow Six: Patriot enjoyed another month of buzz as it was followed up by a debut trailer.
But after this brief bubbling spring of footage, the team went dark. Word was put out in March that a handful of the project’s lead developers had left the project, including the creative director. And since then, we’ve been left to wonder just how well Ubisoft has been handling their attempt to revolutionize the FPS genre.
Until now, that is. Polygon recently recieved a few answers from Ubisoft chairman and CEO Yves Guillemot, who confirmed that the project is running and that it “[has] a good team working on it, and it’s really looking good…when it will come, it will surprise the industry.”
This leading to the assumption that the game is still pretty far away in the development stages, Polygon aired out the next big question: will it be released on next-gen consoles?
The answer: “There’s a good chance it [could] be.”
Whether this is insight into just how quickly the round of consoles will be upon us, or just how far back in the stages of development the game really is, who knows. Either way, it’s a welcome update on what could be an amazing game.

I’m tentatively hopeful for this game. On the one hand, it seemed to be based on a good idea and the research into said idea seemed to be solid.
On the other, Homefront.
We’ll see what happens.
