Robert Rodriguez Announces Strange Project Even For Him
You have to give director Robert Rodriguez credit for dipping outside Hollywood norms, and his latest project may be the craziest one yet. He’s working on a new TV series….except it’s not really for television. When is a TV show not a TV show? When it’s meant to be transmitted through VR goggles only.
It’s called The Limit, and it’s shot entirely from first-person perspective. The main character, played by Michelle Rodriguez (no relation), is “a genetically enhanced weapon of mass destruction hellbent on destroying the covert agency that created her.” To watch this show you’re going to have to gain access to a pay-per-view VR service called Surreal, created by STX (and we haven’t even heard of STX before).
If anything fit the dictionary definition of “risky” it’d be this. The only recent project even remotely like this was the movie Hardcore Harry, which used a similar first-person gimmick and over-the-top plot. Harry failed for several reasons, a big one being the perspective made a lot of moviegoers sick. That problem will be much more pronounced in VR. Also consider Robert went through the trouble of hiring a well-known actress, yet we won’t actually be seeing her unless her character looks in a mirror.
Robert Rodriguez, you so crazy!
