Rockstar details GTA Online
Rockstar has released more details about their upcoming multiplayer component for GTA V, GTA Online.
In their post, Rockstar has said that they are expecting server problems on launch due to the unprecedented surge of players who have purchased the game and asks for the patience of the community. While they are rushing to acquire more servers and internal testing have gone well, they maintained that the reality of GTA Online played by millions of people worldwide might cause problems and are asking players to bear with them. They have also emphasized that the initial weeks after the launch of GTA V will be to tune the experience “so that all the usual teething problems for an online game are overcome”.
After the initial launch, Rockstar plans to release a series of free content updates such as The Content Creator, The Beach Bum Pack, Capture the Flag and various Heists.
- The Content Creator: The Content Creator will launch with tools to tailor and publish your own Deathmatches & Races.
- The Beach Bum Pack: Featuring 4 new amazing beach fun vehicles, over 300 new items of incredible down tempo leisure wear and 2 new but not remotely relaxing weapons.
- Capture the Flag: GTA Online’s take on the classic CTF mode including the ability to make your own using The Content Creator.
- Heists: This update will introduce full-on cooperative Heist missions that will require careful planning, teamwork and sharp execution – along with the Heist Planning Board for your apartment.
As it stands, GTA Online will allow players to take part in open world crime, take part in races and sporting events and of course, partake in Jobs and Missions either alone, with your Crew, or joining fellow “mercenaries and degenerates” to pull off a variety of robberies.
Players can create their very own character using the Character Creator to earn cash and reputation to customize your cars and personalize your weapons. Reputation is earned online from all of your exploits to unlock new features, weapons and criminal contacts.
As we have covered before, GTA Online will have their own in-game store where players can spend real money to purchase in-game cash, GTA$. However, Rockstar has assured players that the game has been designed and balanced from the start that there are no in-game paywall and nothing that will disrupt the balance of the game. This means that the vast majority of players will not actually need to buy GTA$ to fully enjoy GTA Online.
With such a massive undertaking by Rockstar, they understand the need to get feedback from the community to further improve upon the multiplayer experience. As such, they are asking for feedback when GTA Online goes live and players can send their feedback and input to GTAOnline@rockstargames.com or via the GTA Online Forums which will be up some time this fall after the release of GTA Online.
