Samurai Jack Creator Talks Depth of New Show
Samurai Jack is making his long awaited return with a 10-episode miniseries that will finally give the show the ending it deserves. 13 years ago, the show ended very unceremoniously and without an ending. But now, creator Genndy Tartakovsky is back, and he’s ready to give the show its due. For him, it means respecting the old show and taking it to a new level.
“Generally, we wanted to do what we did in the old days, but do it newer, do it better.” said the creator in a press event covered by IGN, “The tone of the story just drove us. That was really the biggest motivation. The storytelling, because it’s this one arc, was more interesting because now we could take our time, we wouldn’t have to rush through anything. Where it’s going is a really huge arc, and it’s hopefully really satisfying at the end.”
For him, even though the show was gone, he held onto the idea of Samurai Jack for a long time, and knew that this was the way to end it. He added, “I wanted to do [this idea] in animation because I feel like it’s never been done right and it’s really challenging, and at the end of the day I really want you to feel. That’s the thing. Ideally, you’re gonna be more invested in Jack than you ever have before.”
Samurai Jack returns March 5th on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.
