Samurai Jack Is Finally Coming Back
But will he make it back to the cast. Fans have waited over a decade for the return of Samurai Jack. For a long time, it seemed that hope was lost. For years, Genndy Tartakovsky would talk about possibly doing an animated movie for Samurai Jack. There were reports of one going into development, but nothing ever materialized. Then Tartakovsky started directing animated features for Sony Pictures Animation, and it seemed like Samurai Jack would become an even more distant memory. That is no longer the case. The acclaimed series is finally returning to Cartoon Network with a brand-new season in 2016. In addition, Cartoon Network released a short, little announcement teaser video, which you can check out below.
The new show will be a part of Adult Swim’s Toonami block on Cartoon Network some time in 2016. Samurai Jack creator and executive producer Genndy Tartakovsky will continue his epic story, which first debuted on Cartoon Network way back in 2001. The show has already started production at Cartoon Network Studios in Los Angeles.
The return of Samurai Jack does raise a lot of questions. Based on the teaser, both Jack and his archenemy, Aku, will be returning. Jack’s design and silhouette in the video look a little different. It looks like Jack’s outfit might have changed, and he could now be sporting samurai armor. Also, how many episodes will the new season be? Will Tartakovsky finally be able to finish and conclude the story he started in 2001? Finally, will Jack actually make it back to the past?
One issue is that the great Mako, the voice of Aku, sadly passed away in 2006. The role will have to be recast with a sound-alike actor, unless Tartakovsky is possibly planning on using stock audio footage of Mako, but that could be rather difficult. There is no doubt that Phil LaMarr would be up for returning to play Jack.
Still, many fans can finally take joy in the fact that after over 11 years, Jack is finally back.
