Scarlett Johansson Speaks Out On Possible Black Widow Film
There’s a lot of things the Marvel Cinematic Universe has done right. It’s made B-list heroes into major stars, it’s brought cult classic characters new life, and has made the first truly successful shared universe in films. But, when it comes to the female characters in the universe, they’ve dragged their feet in giving them the spotlight. While it’s easy to see films like Black Panther and the upcoming Ant-Man and The Wasp film and thing “Marvel is really representing women well”, it hasn’t always been that way. With the biggest faux pa being Black Widow.
Despite debuting in Iron Man 2, Black Widow has only be a side or supporting character, never getting a chance to star in her own film. Yet, that may be changing, and Scarlett Johansson does have ideas on how the film could portray her character.
“I love playing this character,” Johansson told Entertainment Tonight, “and I think there is definitely an opportunity to explore the Widow as a woman who has come into her own and is making independent and active choices for herself, probably for once in her life. You know, she hasn’t always had that possibility. If it fit that criteria, then it would make me want to do it.”
Hopefully the film does get made so the character can truly get her place in the spotlight.
