Sci-Fi Horror Flick “Canaries” To Debut At Cannes
What kind of prestigious, world-class examples of filmmaking will make their debut at the Cannes Film Festival next month? You probably weren’t expecting “wacky low-budget horror-comedy about invading UFOs,” and if you were, then you weren’t expecting the UFOs to invade Wales.
That’s what you get in “Canaries,” the first announced movie to be screening from genre distributors Devilworks. According to their official description, it is about “a group of friends at a New Year’s Eve bash in the Welsh Valley, who must fight against an invasion force of time traveling aliens.” We’re not sure what the title is in reference to — perhaps it’s Welsh slang we’re not hip toward.
“Canaries” stars Robert Pugh (Game Of Thrones, Doctor Who, Master & Commander) and Hannah Daniel (Netflix’s Hinterland), and was written and directed by Peter Stray. It’s coming to Cannes, whether they’re ready for it or not. The trailer lies below.
The Cannes Film Festival runs from the 8th through the 17th of May.
