SDCC 2017: Aquaman Scene Shown, Villain Confirmed
Arguably one of the most anticipated films in the DCEU is next years Aquaman. The film, that is directed by James Wan and stars Jason Momoa, is going to be Aquaman’s solo theatrical debut. The character is getting truly introduced in Justice League, but his solo film will be an origin story that takes place after the events of Justice League.
At San Diego Comic Con, during the Warner Bros. panel, a small clip of Aquaman was shown, and Momoa was there to comment on some of the footage we saw.
Mainly, it was a shot of fisherman seeing a fleet of ships approaching. We also got a shot of Atlantis. Momoa confirmed that the ships are part of Ocean Masters fleet.
“That’s Ocean Master’s army,” Momoa explained of the ships shown in the footage later in the panel. “Black Manta’s got nothing like that. That’s my brother. I’m going to be fighting my brother.”
A video also showed director James Wan (on location in Austrailia shooting the film) talking about the film:
“In a lot of ways this is an origin story, so I want the audience to experience Atlantis the first time Aquaman experiences it as well,” Wan said in the video, a mix of concept art and comic book illustrations accompanying his words. “This is the reason for the theatrical experience.”
Aquaman is scheduled for December 21st, 2018.
