SDCC 2017: X-Men Show “The Gifted” In Different Timeline
This fall, the X-Men will get a second series on television. The first was Legion, but now, The Gifted are going to focus on a new set of mutants mixed with some classics from the comic book series, and at San Diego Comic Con, we got some interesting tidbits about the series and what it’s going to be, and not be.
For example, series writer Matt Nix noted that in this series, the X-Men aren’t in the public eye.
“Right now, one of the things that comes out in the show is the X-Men are gone,” said Nix. “Why are the X-Men gone? That is a thing in the show. It’s not just that they’re too expensive for television!”
Now, that’s not to say that past members of the X-Men from the comics won’t show up, because that is going to happen. However, what was also made clear was that the show is in a different timeline than the movies:
“One of the great favors that Days of Future Past did is it established that there are many streams,” explained Nix. “So that’s one answer, that this is its own stream. … A different timeline. You share elements from the comics. … The idea is we’re doing our own thing. And as I said, there are many streams.”
The Gifted arrive in September on Fox.
