Shadowgate reimagining gets release date and new trailer
Development team Zojoi and indie games partner Reverb Triple XP announced the release date of their remake of the classic 80s point-and-click adventure game Shadowgate. The title is set to launch this summer for the PC, Mac, iOS and Android tablets.
Along with the release date announcement, Zojoi has also revealed a new trailer to herald the game’s availability for preorder.
The new remake features hand-drawn visuals and new level designs. Zojoi announced that there will be many references to the original title and music from the original game will be used in the reimagining to give the game its original atmosphere.
The Shadowgate remake is crowd funded by Kickstarter and developed by the original developers of the original game, Dave Marsh and Karl Roelofs.
“Dave and I are incredibly thrilled to be returning to Castle Shadowgate after all these years,” said Karl Roelofs, in a press release. “When we created the MacVenture series, we knew we had something special on our hands – the initial response from gamers around the world was overwhelming! Shadowgate has remained near and dear to not only our hearts but to those who remember the haunting original, greatly evidenced by the support our Kickstarter campaign generated. The past few years we have been hard at work re-building and updating the Shadowgate experience and cannot wait to inspire, challenge, and terrify an entire new generation of players.”
The original Shadowgate game, released for the Macintosh, received positive reviewer attention during its initial release and was praised for its difficulty and moody atmosphere, which was much different from many of the shooters or platformers of its day. The original has been ported to the PC and the Nintendo Entertainment system, players explored the depths of a demonic castle trying to defeat a warlock before he can summon a demon called the Behemoth. Both the orignal and the remake will be played from the first person-perspective, while the remake will feature many of the original puzzles and themes Zajoi has said that there will be new puzzles and interactions to keep long time fans on their toes.
Shadowgate will be released this summer at the price of $19.99, but players can preorder copies right now for a 25 percent discount. Additionally Zojoi games will be releasing two incentive preorder bundles, including the “Adventurer Pack” which will receive the full game at release plus wallpapers and a digital Shadowgate calendar.
