Agents of SHIELD Showrunner Discusses Latest Episode
The recent episode of Agents of SHIELD ended the first part of the LMD storyline. At the end, the show threw out twist after twist. Daisy and Simmons entered the world of the Framework. Doing so, we saw just what world Radcliffe and Aida had made.
In it, Daisy and Ward are together, Simmons is dead, Fitz appears to be rich, Mac has his family back, Coulson is a teacher, and HYDRA rules the world, and May is one of their agents. That’s a lot to process, so IGN talked with Showrunner Jed Whedon about what inspired them to make the Framework this way, and why they brought HYDRA back.
Whedon stated: “It’s more that we’re exploring “what if” scenarios with our characters. We wanted to show that this world was not what was intended, and what really symbolizes the opposite of SHIELD or the ultimate evil in our world is Hydra. It’s more about our people than it is about the organization itself this time around. No better villain in SHIELD than Hydra, so why not?”
He and the team though made sure that what we see in the world is accurate to the desires of the team in many ways, Hydra aside, as that was the intention of the Framework, to build a world with “less regret.” Whedon added, “I think that they are true to our characters. We can glean some of that from what we see. But that’s the idea. In their warped view of things, they were trying to do something kind, and we’re about to see the result.”
Sadly, we won’t actually see the result until Agents of SHIELD returns to ABC later this April.
