Shovel Knight Set for the Nintendo Switch
Yacht Club Games revealed this week that Shovel Knight is coming to the Nintendo Switch. According to the announcement, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment will both be released on the new Nintendo console, which comes later this year.
Shovel Knight is set to become Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, and it will enable players to have options to purchase each campaign as separate and standalone games. This will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, Linux and Nintendo Switch.
Additionally, a new Body Swap Mode for Shovel Knight is set to launch at the same time as Specter of Torment. Body Swap Mode is a new mode that’s included in the game’s main campaign. It will feature illustrations of all-new designs for body-swapped versions of the main characters.
Another announcement is that the game will now have local two-player co-op in the campaign. This is part of an upcoming free update to all console platforms for the game, including PC and except 3DS and Vita. This doesn’t require use of an amiibo either. The King Knight’s Campaign and the Battle Mode for Shovel Knight will both be released later in 2017. King Knight’s Campaign is a new campaign featuring the King Knight. Battle Mode allows duels with up to four players as their favorite hero or villain. This mode will not be playable for 3DS or Vita unfortunately.
Per Yacht Club, any player who owns Shovel Knight on all platforms will automatically own Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove instead. They will receive each of the planned free campaigns and features view new updates. There is also going to be a price hike on the game later this spring.
